    Project Bread raises and distributes funds to assist local hunger-relief programs throughout Massachusetts.

    Project Bread launched gettingfoodstamps.org, the most comprehensive Web site in the nation devoted to empowering low-income families and individuals in need of food. The site provides visitors with a background on the federally-funded Food Stamp Program, eligibility guideline information, a list of documents to bring to the DTA, access to a printable application form, and tips for filling out the form.

    The United Way’s First Call for Help referral service directs people in need to available resources throughout the community, including: emergency shelter, legal assistance, substance abuse recovery services, child advocacy, a variety of neighborhood health services, nutrition and food assistance programs, and more.

    A committee created to help Holden residents of all ages who are in need. Social service information via Help at H.O.M.E. is available at the Town of Holden website. There is a booklet available on the website, as well as copies available at the Gale Free Library and the Town Hall in Holden.

    There are several programs in Massachusetts to help low-income families and individuals pay for their heating fuel and other utilities. Government help is available to pay for fuel, weatherization, and heating system repairs. In addition, low-income customers can get utility discounts, utility shutoff protection, and help from non-government programs.
